Folk Float

as Public Works with Andreas Lang
2007–16

Folk Float, designed by Kathrin Böhm and Andreas Lang, is an adapted milk float that started as a mobile archive for Egremont, a market town in Cumbria, in northwest England, commissioned by Grizedale Arts in 2007.

The vehicle was converted to incorporate a range of functions and easily respond to the different situations it would enter while on tour.

The Folk Float was also used in London for the annual harvest festival at Abbey Gardens in east London organized by somewhere (Nina Pope and Karen Guthrie, 2009–12) and DIY cultures, commissioned by Camden Art Centre for the King’s Cross area. It later moved to Florence Mine in Egremont to serve as a mobile extension of the mine’s cultural center.
