Why do we care about Art

with The Showroom, London
2024–25

Responses to this question were explored through opinion-sharing and poster-making workshops with community and interests groups based locally to The Showroom throughout 2021.

Kathrin Böhm: "Art can be many different things to each of us. It was important to hold a space where different meanings, practices, understanding and expressions were possible, and equal to each other. The one word and value we all care about is freedom: in art, through art and with art.”

Contributors include the Church Street Maternity Champions, Imperial Health Trust, artists and arts organisations based in the Church Street Ward, The Mosaic Community Trust, Penfold Community Hub, construction workers involved in the building of Paddington Square site, The Showroom board, team and freelancers and the Paddington Square Art Working Group.

The workshop programme was curated and organised by Lili Hall and Seema Manchanda at The Showroom. The banner was designed by Kathrin Böhm in collaboration with designers An Endless Supply.

The banner alongside work by Pae White, Ugo Rondinone and Catherine Yass, is part of Paddington Square Public Art Programme commissioned by Lacuna.
