Penfold Principles meet EU Regulations 2024/1252
For their contribution to the 60th October Salon in Belgrade, Jelena Micić and Kathrin Böhm have collaborated by choosing and co-editing two texts they each are working with, and consider relevant for a discussion in the context of the Salon. Kathrin is bringing the Penfold Principles, a compass towards interdependent art worlds (first co-written with Kuba Szreder in 2021), and Jelena has selected the EU Regulation 2024/1252, a framework for ensuring a secure and sustainable supply of critical raw materials.
Both texts are in stark contrast to each other–in tone, intention and acute impact. The regulation is written from the central and colonial perspective of the EU in the interest of the EU, and the Penfold Principles are a self-published attempt to organise artistic values, aims and practice. Their reciprocal critical reading and overlapping of both texts results in a textual narrative intervention for the gallery.
Part of Hope is a Discipline/October Salon, curated by Lina Džuverović, Ana Knežević and Emilia Epštajn.
